Mark Di Suvero - Mother Peace
"Million Dollar View"
As we pulled out of the North Cove Marina at 8:00 am we could not believe how quiet things were in the Financial District and on the River.  We took in our last views of the city scape as we passed under the George Washington Bridge.
It is surprising how quickly the urban landscape gives way to the sheer rock cliffs of the the Palisades. Lush green forests, quaint villages and historic estates line the shores.  The Hudson River with its
mountainous surroundings is a favorite  cruising area for most Loopers.
It is steeped in history.  One third of the battles of the American Revolution took place along its shores, as British and Colonial forces fought for control of this vital waterway.
I cannot describe how imposing West Point Academy looks from the water, a striking symbol of the strength and greatness of our military.
During a tour of the Academy we had the chance to enjoy what is known as "The Million Dollar
View".  Lining this park area of the campus were benches for viewing .............. each inscribed with a
word ..........  Compassion, Trust, Service, Courage, Perseverance, Dignity, Determination, Discipline, Responsibility, Dedication, Integrity, Loyalty ........... words of inspiration not only for the cadets, but for all of us.
Next we visited Storm King Art Center.  It is an outdoor museum that celebrates the relationship between art and nature.  Over 500 acres of landscaped fields, rolling hills, meadows and woodlands provide the setting for more than 100 sculptures by internationally renowned artists.  What a way to
West Point Academy
take in the art scene.  A very cool place, even for those of us who aren't really well versed in sculpture.
